How to Control Your Audition

3 Steps to Increasing Your Odds

There are always going to be things in the audition process that are out of your control. For instance -- too tall, too short, too fat, too thin, too young, too old, too "ethnic", not "ethnic" enough, earthquakes, phones ringing, etc... You can only control what's under your control.

I wanted to give you a quick overview of the things that are within your control:

  1. Engagement: The key to controlling the room is to engage the viewer from the start. Walk in with a relaxed confidence and something to talk about away from the audition material. Really talk about what your interested in, and really listen. Engage!
  2. Execution: Don't ask questions about the scene unless they're necessary. Have a thorough understanding of the scene. WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER WANT? Truly attempt to get what you want in the scene from the other person (casting director, reader). Engage!
  3. Elimination: Elimination is the name of the game in the audition process. By engagement and execution you enhance your chances of success. Stay in the room. Engage!

Look guys, in order to make this all work you need to bring what's special about you to the room.

There is nothing more special than you and your voice.
